Main areas of work are:

My main area of work is developing the Eurogentest work package 19. The post is funded by the European Commission and is part of a wider project that will develop quality standards for all aspects of genetic testing services to patients in the EU.

The main aims of this particular workpackage are to:

• Assess what information is needed by a patient to make an informed decision as to whether or not to take a genetic test.
• Assess what are the best means of communicating informative, accurate and easily understood information.
• Compare different means of providing patient information regarding genetic testing across the relevant EU states.
• Compare frameworks that exist for evaluating the quality of patient information across the relevant EU states.
• Develop a strategy that can be used to implement a framework in the relevant EU states.

The results of the project will be used to:

• Develop quality standards for all aspects of genetic testing services to patients in the EU.
• Empower clinicians, patients, families and academics across the EU through robust, appropriate and accessible information regarding genetic testing.
