Scottish Development Officer

Main areas of work are:

  • Engage with and support the work of voluntary groups for those affected by all forms of genetic disorder in Scotland. 
  • Coordinate and represent the views of patients and family members, to policy makers and service providers.
  • Develop links with services where genetics in a significant issue, to encourage dialogue between patients, families, voluntary organisations, the public and professionals.
  • Inform the political and professional discussions about the services and resources needed to provide high quality medical genetic services for the future.
  • Contribute to public and professional education on genetic issues and developments, and their impact on patients and families, organising events in Scotland.
  • Liaise and interact between the GIG (UK) office and the Scottish Executive.

Background:

In addition to working 2 days per week for GIG, I also work in a Scottish Regional Genetics Unit as a Genetic Counsellor.
