Patient Engagement Project Officer 

Main areas of work are:

My aim is to represent and involve families in Scotland to ensure that their collective voice is heard by decision makers such as NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government.

Main areas of work:

-the creation of a virtual panel of patient representatives
-building an online forum where issues surrounding genetic predisposition and  / or disease can be debated
-canvassing the views of our members and co-ordinating responses to consultations
-raising awareness of issues affecting patients and their families through the Scottish media

My background

I have had an interest in genetic disorders from a young age as both my sister and I have alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency. Before joining GIG I worked as a research scientist looking at the biology of Multiple Sclerosis. I have also worked as an independent mental health advocate, supporting people to get their views and experiences across in challenging situations
